This is the 2nd book in the Federal Agent Aaron Falk Series – CLICK HERE for my review on the first book, The Dry.

Check out this beautiful SIGNED EDITION!

Five women go on a hike.
Only four return.

In Harper’s second sensational novel, Federal Agent Aaron Falk is back again.
It is equally atmospheric as The Dry, but instead of a small farming town during a drought, Harper takes us to a dense forest where the rain is seemingly endless.

During a corporate retreat, one of the five attending colleagues goes missing in the woods. The same woods that a serial killer inhabited 20 years ago. What was supposed to be a team building adventure, will quite literally tear the team apart.

How well do you really know the people you work with?

I am blown away by the way she entwines an appreciation of nature with captivating mysteries that you will not be able to put down. She evokes emotion. She understands human nature.

Told in third-person, the story alternates between the present-time investigation and past four days of the retreat. As the investigation progresses, more and more details what the women endured surface.

I loved the contrast of settings between The Dry and Force of Nature, one taking place during a drought and the other basically in an Australian rain forest. They are drastically different,  but are both treacherous, dreary places to solve a crime.

I did find a mistake or two (see page 175), aaaand found myself a bit let down by the complexity of the investigation, but I loved the book nonetheless. Highly recommend!
