Considering I took the week off of work, my life has become exponentially more interesting; so, I figured I would share. Read along for adventures, drool-worthy food, and a trip to my favorite little bookstore.
9:00 am – Let’s Hike
Here in New England, we have been scorched by a seemingly never-ending heat wave. Two 90 degree days in a row? Over 80 degrees for the past 10 days? Unheard of! So, after four days of drinking our body weight in alcohol and lounging in the river, it was officially time to get a little workout in.
If you are ever in the North Conway area, Black Cap Mountain is perfect for families or those looking for a nice, easy hike. The trail is only 1.2 miles (2.4 total)! It took us less than an hour.
11:30 am – Shopping!
My mom needed candles, so naturally we left Home Goods with a full cart of goodies that we did not need. But come on, these Rae Dunn dog dishes are adorable!!!
White Birch Books
White Birch Books is the most adorable little book store in North Conway, New Hampshire. Needless to say, I frequent the place. By golly I wanted to buy ALL OF THE BOOKS!!! They have several recommendation displays with little notes from the employees, making it all the more tempting. I had to practice some serious self control considering my pile of unread books at home is absurd.
1:00 pm – Cheese Louise
Picture this: I have my newly acquired books in hand. I am praising myself for not buying all of the books, not even a single new release hardcover! My willpower is strong today, right?
Not right. Upon exiting the bookstore, I am face to face with a grilled cheese food truck, Cheese Louise. The bookstore and a grilled cheese food truck in the same place…? Ladies and gentlemen, I have died and gone to heaven.
Needless to say, I indulged. The ooey-gooey caprese style grilled sandwich and New Hampshire style lemonade (sweetened with maple syrup) were out of this world. I left with a loyalty card.
2:00 pm – Rest, Relaxation, & Reading
Surrounded by nature, dogs at my feet, birds chirping, sun shining… Time to kick my feet up with a classic and do exactly what I intended with this time off work.
Currently reading: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I cannot believe it has taken me this long to finally (FINALLY) read it.
4:30 pm – Local Farmer’s Market
The Thompson House Eatery (T.H.E.) is one of my favorite restaurants in Jackson, New Hampshire. The owners are down to earth, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is sublime. There is an enormous garden in the backyard filled with fresh veggies and herbs that they use in their dishes!
This was their first ever farmer’s market! Other local vendors joined as well; such as, Pork Hill Farm, Loon’s Point Honey Bees, and Mountains for Breakfast. With live music and beer, how could you go wrong? If you are interested in visiting, T.H.E. Farm Stand is located at 193 Main Street, Jackson, NH on Tuesdays from 3:30-6:30 (seasonal).
7:00 pm – Vacation Mode: ON
