Winter Solstice is a novel written by one of my all-time favorite authors, Elin Hilderbrand. It’s the fourth novel of the Winter Street series, which takes readers through the lives of the blended Quinn family, who own the Winter Street Inn on the island of Nantucket, Massachusetts. Each book in the series takes place during the holidays; so if you haven’t read them yet, the time is now!
The Quinn family is enrapturing and face a plethora of obstacles: a prison sentence, a pill-addiction, a cheating wife, a prisoner of war, working-mom guilt and much more. The Winter Street series is a perfect concoction of family drama and holiday warmth.
Winter Solstice is not only the fourth book in the series, it’s the final book. I am not ashamed to admit that I was crying like a baby at the end. Hilderbrand beautifully wraps up each character’s story with unanswered questions and a solemn goodbye.
A couple months back, I was thrilled to find out that Elin Hilderbrand was coming to my hometown! I bought a ticket and began counting down the days. The event in particular took place at The Music Hall Loft, an intimate, hip space. I was ecstatic; not only was I going to meet Elin Hilderbrand, the ticket included a signed hardcover book and a free drink!!
So Monday evening I showed up at the venue to find that my seat was FRONT AND CENTER! Elin read the first chapter of Winter Solstice and answered a number of questions about her writing process, upcoming books, family and personal life. If you’re a Hilderbrand fan like me, you’ll be happy to hear that she plans to write THREE more summer novels and another winter themed trilogy set on St. John.
FUN FACT: Elin writes all of her novels in longhand! I have a hand cramp just thinking about it…
She revealed that for her final summer novel, readers will have the opportunity to vote on which of her past books they want a sequel of. *SCREAMS*
I adored hearing Hilderbrand speak in person, she is humorous, honest and down to earth. The highlight of the evening was getting my copy of Winter Solstice personalized: see photo below.
She even wrote down the name of my blog and said she would check it out (Hi Elin!!!!)
So, as I conclude my fan-girling, I just want to say THANK YOU to Elin Hilderbrand for introducing us readers to the captivating and relatable Quinn family; I would love for any one of them to make an appearance in your future novels!
